Q. We were planning to sell our home this spring and move out of the area. How do we handle getting ready when the coronavirus subsides?

A: It’s hard to predict at this point when things will get back to normal. However, you can be proactive to be prepared when that time comes.

Aside from getting your home ready, e.g., clearing up clutter, etc., you can also contact your local broker and create a strategy so that you can be on the market right away when the time is right.

Using technology like FaceTime, Skype or WhatsApp, your agent can view your home and, using available research capabilities, give you a fairly accurate assessment of your home’s value. Please note that at this point, nobody can enter your home even for just a look.

At the same time, you can begin virtually using various online outlets. Some brokerages, like our company Halstead, also offer relocation assistance. For example, I can connect you with another agent anywhere in the world who can then guide you through the early process of finding a home at your planned destination.

Recently, I spoke to a couple moving across the country who, by utilizing online resources, began the process of purchasing a home, negotiated a price, and scheduled an inspector at the house already.

All that remains is for them to visit the home when restrictions are lifted and make sure that they want to go through with the purchase.
