Wasted time

Dear Editor,

When the first case of the coronavirus was reported in China, that should have been a very clear signal to the rest of the world, including the U.S., that something very wrong was beginning.

U.S. agencies should have immediately started working on a potential vaccine instead of waiting four months. Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted that our health system  failed to deal with this virus.

Now our medical doctors and nurses across the country are in desperate need of medical supplies, and the number of hospital beds is far from adequate. Coronavirus patients will be pushing the nation's hospitals to the breaking point.

The bottom line is that our medical officials should have seen this coming, and precious time was wasted while the virus continued to expand.

A vaccine needs to be developed much sooner than 12 to 18 months. Time is of the essence here, and four months of it was unnecessarily wasted.

The American people deserve an explanation.

Sincerely,

John Amato
